Elizabeth Hurley And The Patent Office

Wondering why Liz Hurley has patented the name Violet Eyes. Hmmm, maybe a make up range coming along?

Wei Out There

There are also rumours abound that popular USA brand Wei East may be making a foray into the UK market with SpaceNK (I'm sure they'll put me right if the rumours aren't true). The range blends eastern Chinese medicine principles with western technology.

Dove For Dudes?

It's rumoured that Dove have plans afoot for a men's range to take on rivals such as Lynx in the personal care market. Given that Dove's Campaign For Real Women includes supporting women and promoting a wider definition of beauty and yet at the same time releasing products to tackle cellulite (Dove Intensive Cellulite Gel-Cream) and armpit beautifying deodorants, I wonder if they'll take the same mixed messages to men. Surely the blokes won't fall for the beautiful armpits thing?

I also often wonder how many times the corporate marketing departments weep over the fact that men don't get cellulite.

Beautiful History: Lips of Luxury

It's not often I wish I'd been to a packaging conference, but in the instance of Luxe-Pack, a luxury goods packaging exhibition in Monaco, I really so do. Because, perfume and cosmetics history expert, Jean-Marie Martin-Hattemburg, (and that is some double-barrelling going on there) curated the Lips of Luxury Exhibit showing how lipsticks and packaging have evolved over time. The picture above says it all. The three lipstick Couturine dolls were produced by Revlon in 1961/1963 and depict Shirley Mclaine, Marilyn Monroe and Bette Davis. Oh, to have been there. I'm hoping there might be a book of the exhibition. Come on, J-M M-H - get scribing.

Woohoo Shu! Amazing HandMade Lashes

If you love Shu Uemura lashes then you'll adore these handmade, very limited edition ones made from real leaf skeletons and washed with gold to work a very edgy look. They are at www.beautyexpert.co.uk along with other fabu-lashes and a selection of Shu skin care and make up. Lovely.

Guerlain Eclat Imperiale Sublime Radiant Powder

I've been meaning to post about this gorgeous shimmer for weeks, but it keeps getting pushed to the back of the pile, which it shouldn't. It's a super-silky powder in a retro-style bottle with puffer that expels the most delicate mist of glitter I've ever seen. I hate glitter chunks - and my current bug-bear is the ridiculous use of sparkle in 'radiance enhancing products'. Errr, glittery does not mean radiant, beauty people. It means a cheap ingredient and a big fat fib. However, back on message again! this shimmer has such a light touch that it disperses sparkles beautifully without you being mistaken for a tree ornament. Love it on shoulders, arms - even bare legs in summer - and it is absolutely gorgeous on hair, but please, nowhere near the face! It costs £47.50 which seems a lot, but given that it is visually lovely and a real dressing table decoration, and it is scented delicately with violets, I really think it's worth the investment if you love glamorous make up.

Edward Bess: We Need You!

I've wanted Edward Bess products to come to the UK for oh, an age now, ever since I bought a couple of his lipglosses in New York and lusted after the EB Lipstick Wardrobe. Sadly, so far he has resolutely kept his gorgeous collection in the US. This seems very unfair especially as he has now come up with every make up diva's dream set, The Jet Set Collection for Holiday 2009, all of which I would wear in a heartbeat. Edward, if you're reading, you know what you need to do.
